Live from Camp: Feeling thankful

Editor’s note: Each day, one of our 11 student writers at June Intermediate Camp will reflect on life learning the journalism ropes at the University of St. Thomas. Come back each day to revel in the fun (and hard work) of being a ThreeSixty residential camper. Also, check out our student bios, complete with awesome headshots by Aidan Haarman.

Today we were working on the broadcasting side of journalism. We spoke with Becky Nahm from KSTP and Lindsey Seavert from KARE 11. They showed us how to write scripts and write with more personality.

We were asked what was our favorite part of camp (for the hundredth time), but this time I actually thought about it. I thought about the best part of waking up early on a summer day to write. I thought about those times I knew my story was going to be terrible. I remembered one thing that got me through it all. It was knowing that I have all of these people behind me, pushing me through it all.

I have my lovely mentor Toni, Tom, Lynda, my wonderful family, and so many others. Though I may not be “‘bout this journalism life” (want to be a journalist), this camp has definitely helped me. It has not only shown me that I can do anything I put my mind to, but it has pushed me to work hard and do my best in the hardest situations.
